Skeleton find tickles funny bone

US authorities investigating the discovery of two 'skeletons' sitting in deck chairs at the bottom of the Colorado River have confirmed the find
was an elaborate prank.

The fake skeletons were discovered by a recreational diver in 12m of water near the Arizona and California border.

The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office and Buckskin Fire Department responded to a report of “found human remains” in the Colorado River, but quickly determined the skeletons were fake, Parker Live reported.

One of the skeletons was wearing sunglasses while the other was holding a sign that read "Bernie living the dream in the river August 16, 2014".

A firefighter sent to investigate reported back that it was an “underwater tea-party with two fake skeletons sitting in lawn chairs.”

"Although the call itself was resource intensive, both the Sheriff’s Office and Buckskin Fire were happy to find that the remains weren’t real and thanked the reporting party for making the call," the sheriff's office reported on Facebook.

The diver's underwater video of the scene has since been posted online.
