The mother of a Geraldton man being held in custody overseas is organising to fly to Indonesia to meet with local authorities, the Australian Consul and lawyers.

Tiena Drage is aiming to secure the release of her son Jake, who is being held in a West Java prison following a motorbike accident in which a woman was killed.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the deceased person following their tragic loss,” a statement from the Drage family said.

“Any excess contributions to Jake’s fund will be donated to the family of the deceased.

“Our family wishes to thank the many people who have sent messages of support and contributed to a fund to assist with the costs associated with helping Jake.

“We also wish to thank the many people who have sent messages of support and contributed to a fund to assist with the costs associated with helping Jake.”

The Drage family has asked media “do not interfere” with the processes Tiena Drage will engage with in Indonesia.

“While there is public interest in respect to this story, the family does not want any reporting that may potentially undermine the family’s efforts and therefore potentially impact negatively on Jake,” a statement said.
