Curtain comes down on school leavers

Year 12 school leavers made their final appearance at Kununurra District High School last Thursday when they attended the 2012 Senior School Awards for one last hurrah.

Students, family and friends attended the awards ceremony, held at the KDHS performing arts building, to acknowledge the 22 teenagers who successfully completed the 2012 school year.

Selected students received certificates of excellence and community awards were presented.

Year 11 students were invited to join the graduates’ celebrations and were awarded with certificates of their own.

The two major awards, the P and C dux award and principal’s award, were presented to Luke Phipps and Laura Kuiper respectively. Laura, who said Year 12 was a combination of hard work and fun, was honoured to receive the principal’s award.

“I honestly didn’t expect it all, so I was really surprised and happy as well,” she said.

She said she was glad the year was over.

Laura is looking forward to 2013 when she will spend a year in Denmark as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange program.

Inspirational speeches were made by principal Rod Baker and Sarah Marshall and Laura Kuiper from the graduating class.

Senior school co-ordinator Brendan Forbes also bid farewell to the Year 12 graduates.
