Specialist shortage could hurt services

More specialists are needed in Geraldton to keep private medical care practices operating, according to retiring St John of God Hospital general surgeon Martin Hudson.

He said if specialists were not willing to work in Geraldton, it could mean closure of some facilities.

Dr Hudson said many patients diagnosed with breast cancer were sent to Perth when there is adequate care and after-care available in Geraldton.
