Students enjoy cool buses

Just in time for wet season, local school children were delighted to take seats on brand new school buses last week.

Three new air-conditioned buses were provided by the Public Transport Authority, to be operated by Pearl Town Bus Service.

PTA supplies buses for schools throughout WA and has gradually upgraded the vehicles since the introduction of school services in 2006.

The new vehicles are Mercedes Metro buses with 12.0 litre turbo-charged diesel engines and six-speed automatic transmission. They also include disabled access, enabling each vehicle to take up to four wheelchairs.

Pearl Town Bus manager Don Bacon said the first wave of Broome schoolchildren climbed aboard the new buses this week and enjoyed the experience of sitting in an airconditioned bus.
