Visit to park inspires big mural at school

Kangaroos, emus and crocodiles can be seen on a large biodiversity mural at Kununurra District High School, where Year 7 students have contributed to a landscape by University of WA artist Angela Rossen.

The students spent some of last week at Celebrity Tree Park sketching plants and animals before returning to the school to paint on the mural.

Rossen, who is artist-in-residence at the school, painted the picture’s landscape background before the students added animal designs. “The picture is displayed at the school to showcase the rich and unique biodiversity in this region,” she said.

The project, one of a series run by UWA at the school last week, was completed on Friday.

Other UWA-run activities included training for science teachers through SPICE, a program which provides resources and training to science teachers, and Aspire UWA, which aims to increase students’ awareness of tertiary study options.
