Wigged ladies take high tea

Kununurra women showed their support for the Cancer Council Australia by attending Kununurra’s Biggest High Tea party last Saturday.

East Kimberley resident and cancer survivor Tanya Mesken raises funds for the cause each year, and this year she hosted a high tea after combining forces with Sara Smith who also has family and friends who were affected by cancer.

Held in a beautiful Kimberley garden, the tea party had a unique atmosphere.

Ladies who were to attend the event were encouraged to wear their favourite wigs, with delicious treats served on the day, in between games such as “heads and tails”.

In addition to entry fee donations, the event raised more than $5000 for Cancer Council through an auction held at night.

Ms Mesken thanked community members for their support, with the high tea planned to become a yearly event.

She said organisers had received a bigger response than anticipated.
