Librarians lend words for wellness

The Boab Health Services counselling team and the Kununurra Community Library hope to help people access information about mental health issues by offering high-quality self-help material for loan.

Providing a free and easily accessible method of learning more about mental illnesses, the Books on Prescription program aims to help people with a range of mild to moderate mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, to give them a better understanding of their condition and useful strategies to help manage it.

The scheme was launched last month at the Kununurra Community Library, where guests were invited to view the books on the shelf and learn how they could help people suffering from mental illness.

The concept is based on the Books On Prescription program launched in Broome in 2010, which has now been extended to Kununurra and Derby.
