Alleged Rockhampton gunman in court

A Rockhampton man accused of shooting at police during a car chase in central Queensland will spend a month behind bars until his next court appearance.

Adin Joel Cussen, 29, faced the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Friday after he allegedly led officers on a prolonged pursuit through the rural town of Bouldercombe, south of Rockhampton.

Police allege that around midday on Wednesday, shots were fired at them from a car as officers attempted to intercept it on the Burnett Highway.

After the chase Cussen allegedly abandoned the car and then lit a bushfire around 100 metres from it.

But the incident was far from over.

Fifteen detectives and members of the Special Emergency Response Team hunted the fugitive through bushland and houses on Thursday, after describing him as armed and dangerous.

The 29-year-old was arrested on Thursday afternoon and charged with a string of offences, including assault occasioning bodily harm, going armed to cause fear, unlawful possession of a weapon and wilful damage.

Mr Cussen fronted court on Friday, where no application for bail was made and the matter was adjourned before a mention on October 17.
