Forget Christmas in July - David Jones held its "summer in July" fashion parade in Sydney last night, giving a sneak peek of what to expect in store when the warmer weather rolls around.
Against a set of rectangular walkways and travel-themed digital projections, Jessica Gomes, Montana Cox, Jason Dundas and a crop of new faces to watch modelled the latest looks by David Jones newcomers Manning Cartell, who opened the show, and Zimmermann, who closed it.
They were alongside outfits by Dion Lee, Josh Goot, Ginger & Smart, and Megan Gale's swimwear line Isola.
There was a bit of something for everyone - from the outrageously colourful "boho" style of Camilla Franks to the minimal, pristine black-and-white looks from Josh Goot, Bassike and Strateas.Carlucci.
There was a strong nod to the 1960s courtesy of the models' bouffant hair and Twiggy make-up.
The theme was carried through via Trelise Cooper's matching mini-dresses and pea-coats and Alice McCall's girlish playsuit paired with retro cats-eye sunglasses.
Gomes rocked the runway in some stunning swimwear by Jets, while for the boys, swimwear just seems to be getting tinier.
For the office, Jack London offered neat suiting with coloured ties and patterned shirts for the boys.
Womenswear was dominated by digital print dresses that clung to the body in silhouettes.
The dominance of that silhouette over the past couple of years has become a little tiresome, with everyone from Lover to Ginger & Smart offering a variation on the theme, but it is clearly what sells best in the Australian summer market..
David Jones' top Australian designers were asked to bring a "muse" along - a person who inspires them to dream and design. Kym Elleery chose model Rachel Rutt as her muse while Carla Zampatti picked A Place To Call Home star Marta Dusseldorp.
