Body boarder hit by dolphin

A bodyboarder has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a dolphin on the NSW south coast.

Emergency services were called to a beach south of Ulladulla around 9am where they treated a man for lower abdominal injuries.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the 27-year-old man was hit by a dolphin around 9am this morning.

“He has come over a wave and as he did so, a dolphin has come through and hit him in the pelvic area," Inspector Dunlop said.

"The force has been enough to tear the patient’s wetsuit.”

The dolphin swam away after the incident, according to police.

The bodyboarder was flown to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

Paramedics said this kind of incident is rare.

The last such major collision occurred in July 2013 when a surfer was hit by a whale's tail at Bondi Beach.
