New-generation Outback revealed

The new Subaru Outback will get its own specific suspension tuning.

Also breaking cover before its Broadway debut is the fifth-generation Subaru Outback.

The all-wheel-drive wagon is set to arrive here early next year yet, despite being all new, Subaru has clearly opted not to fix what isn't broke.

Engine-wise, it's expected to get the same 2.5-litre and 3.6-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel unit currently available, paired with a lineartronic continuously variable transmission.

It is based on the Liberty mid-sized sedan recently revealed at the Chicago motor show but has a raised ground clearance and a slightly longer wheelbase for more interior room. Despite this, there are no plans for the Outback to become a seven-seater.

The A-pillar has also been moved forward for better visibility, while the Outback will get its own specific suspension tuning to ensure it is still able to tackle rugged terrain while being smooth on the tarmac.
