It would not be an Australian motor show without a fair representation of good old Aussie muscle. And red (Holden) or blue (Ford) fans won't be disappointed this year.
Holden will unveil its 25th anniversary version of the GTS while Ford will showcase its fastest FPV, the GT RSPEC.
Both are limited-edition models with only small numbers of each being offered. And both have used weight shedding and new technology as the primary way of improving performance.
HSV general manager sales, Darren Bowler, said the new GTS embodied all that HSV stood for - race-bred performance, design and technology. It has been fitted with upgraded six-piston brakes with 50 per cent more pad area and new 20-inch alloy wheels that reduce weight by more than 22kg.
It will be powered by the same engine used in the regular GTS, a 325kW/550Nm, 6.2-litre V8, with 125 being built.
Ford Performance Vehicles' (FPV) most hard-core GT yet, the new GT RSPEC Limited Edition Series - as well as the Pursuit Ute - will be on display.
Developed to deliver racetrack-inspired handling, the GT RSPEC features a new suspension package, 19-inch rear wheels and, in an FPV first, launch control.
Visually, it has a contemporary look inspired by the legendary 1969 Boss Mustang with a unique stripe package and paint treatment.
Under the bonnet is FPV's all-aluminium Boss 335 5.0-litre supercharged engine.
