Smart car has dealers busy

Seven West Australian Holden dealers were among 49 named nationally to sell and service the brand's first electrified car, the Volt.

John Elsworth, Holden director of sales, marketing and after sales, said that speculation it would be priced about $60,000 was close to the mark.

He also admitted that GM Holden would lose money on every sale.

Mr Elsworth predicted annual sales would be in the hundreds rather than 1000s.

All dealers selected to sell the revolutionary plug-in car have made a commitment to invest in the technology needed - including building recharging stations - to sell and service the car.

They have also committed to implementing a number of environmental initiatives including more recycling, less energy use and cutting back on toxic chemicals disposed of.

They must also achieve level-two accreditation through the VACC Green Stamp Program.

The WA dealers are:

Brian Gardner Holden, Cannington;
Phoenix Holden, Wanneroo;
City Motors, Perth;
Melville Holden, Melville;
Rockingham Holden, Rockingham;
Shacks Holden, Fremantle;
Bunbury Holden, Bunbury.
