What vehicle does Perth car dealer John Hughes drive?
Volkswagen Passat CC
WHAT ARE YOU DRIVING?
A VW Passat CC. About 15 years ago I bought a new Jaguar and took my wife out to dinner to celebrate.
A gentleman loading his family into a Mitsubishi Nimbus said: "Hello Mr Hughes, I am one of your customers. Why don't you drive what you sell?"
It was a question that really got to me and the next morning I took the car back and have driven what I sell ever since. The Passat CC is a good-size car for me and has plenty of power.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR?
It was a 1936 Austin 10 I bought for £125 that I borrowed from my parents.
It was 17 years old and only had one window-winder, so when people in the back seat wanted to wind the window down I had to unscrew the winder and pass it back.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM CAR?
The Bugatti Veyron, no question. I watched James May driving it on Top Gear and he had it up over 400km/h. I love the power and speed; I always have. I used to race at Caversham.
My first experience was in a Mini Cooper and the memory is still vivid.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MORE MEMORABLE CARS
I had an Aston Martin Lagonda, which I found out after I had sold it was one of the prototypes; a hand-built Iso Rivolta Fidia powered by a Chevy V8 engine that I lost about $80,000 on when I sold it; and a 1956-57 Plymouth Fury that I should never have sold.
I would love to go to Pebble Beach and buy another.
==REV HEAD RATING (1-5)
I think I would be 4.
