New native hibiscuses

Two stunning new varieties of native hibiscus have just been released into nurseries: Alyogyne Misty and Alyogyne Karana.

Both grow to about 1-1.5m tall and wide and flower prolifically from spring through to autumn.

Misty has pale, soft mauve flowers, while Karana has a deeper colour purple.

Prune them back by a third when flowering has finished and plant out in improved soil.

Alyogyne prefer full sun and are happy to grow in sandy soils that have been improved or up in the Hills in heavier soils if the drainage is adequate.
