Feasts fit for a family

Running a busy household and aiming to serve nourishing meals for her three children before 6pm wasn’t always easy for Julia Lambo. So she founded The Little Feast Company — a newly established business specialising in pre-prepared and kid-friendly family meals.

“I was always worried about not feeding my children on time and much of the pre-prepared products available just didn’t have the quality I was looking for,” said UK-born Mrs Lambo, who moved to Perth with her family in 2010. Her philosophy is to supply home-style meals that children and the rest of the family can enjoy.

“I’m not a chef but the products are cooked the way I cook at home. My kids love shepherd’s pie so my range is based on what my family loves,” she said, referring to her other favourites such as vegetarian and beef lasagne, chicken and vegetable bake and her bestselling “smarty pants” fish pie.

“The fish pie has been a big hit because children can barely taste the fish — it has a very mild flavour but it still provides the nutrients and vegetables kids need. It is also gluten-free.” Mrs Lambo uses free-range meat and wild-caught fish where possible and prepares the meals at a commercial kitchen in Balcatta.

Meal sizes come in “famished” ($28), “hungry” ($16) and “peckish” ($11) and can be ordered online at littlefeast.com.au with free delivery to more than 50 suburbs. Mrs Lambo partners with various primary schools around Perth with 10 per cent of meal sales donated to the P&C associations. The business also supports charities and earlier this year, donated 50 cents from every Little Feast sale to the Mo, Evie and Otis Maslin Foundation — the charity established in memory of the three Perth children killed in the MH17 airline disaster.
