Top city bar seeks 2am closing
The award-winning bar and restaurant complex Print Hall wants to extend its opening hours to 2am, claiming there is a lack of late night inner-city options for its mature and professional clientele.
The venue, named by the Australian Hotels Association WA as the State's best hospitality venue for the past two years, has applied to alter its existing tavern licence, which allows it to open until midnight Monday to Saturday and 10pm on Sunday.
If the permit is granted, Print Hall could serve patrons until 2am from Wednesday to Saturday and midnight on Sunday.
It would also make the complex one of Perth's biggest late-night venues, with a patronage capacity of 1000 people.
Colonial Leisure Group State operations manager Vern Fogarty said it was important for cities such as Perth to be able to offer its local clientele, tourists and the general public a late-night option that did not include loud music and smoke machines.
"As the city matures, the offering available to people to socialise should mature at the same rate," Mr Fogarty said.
Though 43 venues are within 500m of Print Hall, less than one-quarter are open after midnight on Friday and Saturday, with even fewer offering late closing hours on weekdays.
"In a modern society, particularly in the central business district, people are working hours that aren't the normal nine-to-five and they should have the ability to have a drink after work and enjoy some quality food as everyone else is able to," Mr Fogarty said.
CLG said Print Hall operating pursuant to its requested closing times would provide modern services to the "underserviced business district".
The closing date for public submissions on the application is Thursday.
