The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden National Program will be rolled out to a further 400 schools, bringing to 570 the number of schools participating.

The Federal Government has committed another $5.4 million to the program over three years.

Some disadvantaged schools will be eligible to apply for grants of up to $10,000 to help cover set-up, infrastructure and teacher costs.

"This will educate the next generation of Australian children to enjoy the pleasures of fresh, seasonal food and to develop the skills that contribute to lifelong health," chef and food writer Stephanie Alexander said.
