Myer feels a 70s vibe

You can do all the jive talking you like but the 70s are back - in all their lurex and leather-clad glory.

Jennifer Hawkins strutted down a spangly silver catwalk last night as Myer launched a winter range of lace and cowl necks and cut-outs - not to mention jumpsuits, big faux fur jackets, hats and attitude.

Hawkins opened the show in a silver sequinned top and trousers by Toni Maticevski, whose collection also conjured ladylike 60s elegance, with his trademark flouncy, flared skirts and lots of embroidered fabric - including a dramatic strapless gown that would take you from the racetrack to the altar.

WA designer Aurelio Costarella elicited coos from the audience with his ethereal watercolour dresses and a plunging V-neck dress with a circle skirt featuring sheer panels.

Other highlights included a yellow-print Arthur Galan jumpsuit worn by Hawkins, a green kimono-style wrap top worn over Sass & Bide skinny leather pants, a By Johnny grey marle skirt and biker-jacket suit and a teal leather dress by Kate Sylvester.

Jayson Brunsdon's super- snazzy range epitomised the 70s vibe, including a striking silver brocade jacket, a pussy-bow shirt and flattering flared trousers.

The soundtrack, too, was a bit of a throwback, with the Beatles, Donna Summer and Janet Jackson in with more recent tracks.

The launch, at Myer's Melbourne store, finished with a huge collection of glittering Alex Perry dresses and gowns.
