Shades of grey in Myer's collection

There may not be quite 50 shades of it but Myer's autumn-winter fashion launch in Melbourne tonight will have lashings of grey.

Black and white will also dominate the winter range, a traditionally more muted palette than the technicolour summer fare.

Long-time ambassador Jennifer Hawkins and a band of models, including Perth's Sarah Pauley, will showcase highlights from Myer's new season.

Group general manager of apparel Karen Brewster predicted plenty of menswear for women including wide-leg trousers and brogues. But she said the key was to remain elegant. "That whole man-style trend is trying to mix the feminine touches with man-style products," she said.

Other trends include luxe fabrics, championed by our own Aurelio Costarella, and plenty of prints. Perth label Morrison will also feature in the parade.

Melbourne man of the moment Toni Maticevski will open the show while industry veteran Alex Perry will close. The launch includes a peek at new Myer brands Maison Scotch and Scotch and Soda, as well as an international designer showcase.

Ms Brewster said Maticevski was a trailblazer with beautiful and elegant fuller skirts and other brands emulated that.

She said that while retailers helped shape the trends, the key to winter fashion was to make each look your own.

"Florals with checks and print pants with different textured yarn tops . . . these are the trends we call out but it's really about your own personal comfort and personal style," she said.
