Myer has acquired one of Australia's most popular fashion labels, Charlie Brown.

The label will now be stocked exclusively in the department store, with Charlie Brown's stand-alone stores and outlets throughout Australia to be closed down within the next six months.

Myer will receive new-season collections in the coming weeks in line with its spring/summer 2015 launch next month.

Colourful leading designer Brown will continue to be responsible for and lead the creative direction of both the Charlie Brown and Howard Showers ranges, which also will be stocked exclusively at Myer.

"Myer has shown a great commitment to developing local design talent," Brown said.

"I am pleased to continue to work with a brand that so strongly supports Australian fashion and its designers. This is a very exciting opportunity for me to work exclusively with Myer and further strengthen the Charlie Brown and Howard Showers ranges."

Brown began her career during the 1980s in the US.

After gaining valuable experience in the fashion industry, she moved to Australia, where she spent seven years at the design helm of Howard Showers.

In 1995, Brown launched her self-titled label, Charlie Brown, which had a popular stand-alone store in Claremont Quarter that closed its doors last week.

The announcement comes shortly after Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke revealed they were leaving the label they founded, sass & bide.

Myer bought 65 per cent of sass & bide for $42.5 million in 2011 and took full ownership last September. Since then, Clarke and Middleton reduced their roles in the company and worked as creative directors.
