A who's who of Perth's fashion community flocked to the city this morning for the launch of Perth Fashion Festival's 2012 program.

The festival, which is now in its 14th year, would feature more local content than ever before, PFF fashion director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan said.

The event - fronted by model Nicole Pollard - would focus on 36 "fashion-forward" events and 160 designers.

Today's launch at the State Theatre Centre offered fashionistas a preview of the collections that will hit the catwalks during PFF from September 19 to 25.

Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said the PFF team had spent the past year ensuring the 2012 event would bring the fantasy of fashion to life with a more thrilling and dynamic program.

Deputy Lord Mayor Janet Davidson said the fashion festival would benefit local businesses, with research showing that the event's economic impact was more than $6 million.

She said it was a priceless opportunity to promote and inspire the fashion community.

Ten models brought colour to the State Theatre by showcasing a variety of Perth labels, and accessorised with wigs in fluorescent pink and yellow as well as vibrant shades of red, blue, orange and purple.

One Fell Swoop, named Most Innovative Designer at this year's WA Fashion Awards, will kick off the festival with a VIP opening night at Perth Town Hall.

WA success story Flannel will take part in one of this year's highlights: An Evening with Flannel. The label's designer, Kristy Lawrence, said she was excited about the event which would evoke "feelings of a bygone era" and feature fashion, food and champagne.

Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said home-grown music and fashion would collide at Fashionably Loud, which would feature music by San Cisco.

Kylie Radford's Morrison designs and Ae'lkemi's Alvin Fernandez will show why they are among Perth's most-talented fashion designers.

Ange Lang, Catini Designs, Little Gracie, Tindale, Peppermint Milk, Monster Alphabets, Alushia-Sanchia, Anna Excell, On a Whim, Martini + Coz, Betty Tran, Neleh & Heath and Wild Horses will take part in the WA Designer Collections on September 21.

Zsadar, Garth Cook, Daniella Caputi, Kim Barton, Steph Audino, Lisa Marjanovich, Empire Rose, Breathless, The Butcher + The Crow and Nikki Loueza will have their labels in the spotlight during three Designer Capsule events.

Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said she was particularly pleased that PFF 2012 would feature Windows of the City, with retailers dressing their window displays with a spring theme.
