Crown Princess Mary stuns in Alex Perry on the cover of Vogue Australia

Vogue Australia is on a role right now: just two months ago, the magazine featured Kim Kardashian exclusively on their cover, and this month, it’s Princess Mary.

The royal was photographed in Copenhagen by esteemed photographer, Mario Testino for the August issue, in which she spills her thoughts on being a role model.

“I see my role as not just being a voice of the voiceless, but also being able to be a catalyst for bringing people and relevant actors together,” said Princess Mary, who appears on the cover in Alex Perry. “I believe that in order to find solutions to some of the most pressing global challenges of today we need to take a holistic approach that requires us to consider the social, environmental and economic aspects and work together in new and innovative partnerships, maybe with people and organisations we wouldn’t have thought about working with before.”

Despite the sentiment though, the Crown Princess says she finds it “difficult” to think of herself as a role model.

“I find it difficult to speak of myself as a role model, as role models are defined by the individual,” she said. “It is what they see in a person that gives meaning or inspiration to them that makes another person a role model for them.

“It’s not something I consciously think about. But at the same time, I am very aware of my role and my responsibility. If I can inspire others and if others see something in me that can motivate them, then that’s a big compliment.”

Editor Edwina McCann, who flew to Copenhagen to conduct the interview with the Crown Princess, said she ‘kindly’ welcomed the team into her home.

“I have enormous admiration for both HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary and the work they do,” McCann said.

“We discovered a woman at ease with her public life and position, who is driven to use her influence and the privilege it awards her to further causes close to her heart: gender equality and sustainability.

“She is knowledgeable, fiercely intelligent and well-informed about the issues. The Crown Princess is making her mark as a world leader and passionate advocate in these areas. With her energy and drive I suspect this is still only the beginning of the enormous contribution she will make.”

The Vogue Australia August edition featuring Princess Mary is on sale Monday 11 July 2016.
