Style has arrived

Designs lovers have a new place to become inspired by beautiful things from all over the world with the opening of East Perth homewares and lifestyle store, Arrival Hall.

Owners Lisa and Clem Tay, who are avid travellers and interior design enthusiasts, said they sought to make global style easily accessible to those of us fortunate enough to live in the most secluded city in the world.

It’s a surprising career twist for Lisa, who was previously a pharmacist who moved into fashion design, and Clem, a business and finance major with a passion for coffee.

“We came across Boan’s Warehouse in East Perth during our hunt for a new place and loved how much the refurbished warehouse reminded us of New York red brick apartments,” My Tay said of their new address at 2 Saunders Street. Zoned for both residential and commercial use, the Tay’s spent the following year planning and renovating Arrival Hall, which became the venture they literally lived (in) and breathed.

“As the shop operates out of our home (we live upstairs!), we wanted to ensure that the fit-out was an extension of our own personal style,” Mr Tay said.

The pair say their love for Scandinavian design heavily influenced the shop fitout. “Its focus is on simplicity, minimalism and functionality and so we incorporated simple clean lines, monochromatic colours and natural materials throughout the place,” Mr Tay said.

The pair undertook the entire fit-out themselves and sought to create an inviting and welcoming space which would create the perfect environment for their hand-selected stock.

“Our collection is quite diverse, ranging from stationery and prints, kitchen and tableware, home décor and accessories to bodycare products, women‘s clothing and even kids toys,” said Ms Tay.

Expect to find iconic brands and world-leading names in interior design such as Menu, Normann Copenhagen and Bloomingville, alongside more hard-to-find, niche design houses such as Iris Hantverk, Marble Basics and Variopinte within Arrival Hall’s displays. Racks of clothing from internationally renowned designer label Tibi New York hang beside hand-picked pieces from Korea’s famous fashion wholesale district, Dongdaemun.

“Our aim is to showcase some of the best and most exciting design from around the world,” said Mr Tay. “From Europe and America to Asia and Australia, we are constantly on the look out for great pieces to bring home.”

Ms Tay said a great deal of time is spent sourcing and curating its range, which has resulted in a beautiful, unique collection of pieces with competitive pricing.

“We hope to be able to breathe new life and to introduce a fresh aesthetic and distinct point-of-view into the interiors of Perth homes,” Ms Tay said.
