Oodles of noodles in city food feast

Competitive cocktail-making, a night noodle market, secret dinners and a "dessert garden" are some of the new events at this year's Eat Drink Perth festival launched last night by Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi.

The noodle market, which starts the festival on March 18, is the marquee event this year.

More than 20 stalls are expected, with Thai, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese noodles from as little as $10 a dish.

"Food market culture in Perth has expanded enormously," Ms Scaffidi said.

There will be 140 festival events at venues across the CBD, Northbridge, East Perth and West Perth.

Perth restaurateur Scott Taylor said Eat Drink Perth was a reminder to all about local artisan producers, chefs and young restaurateurs doing great things.

"It's a chance for WA foodies to get up close and personal with some of the most creative food dudes in Perth," Mr Taylor said.

New will be the "Bar Wars" competition, which Taylor said was born of the fierce competition between his two bars, Enrique's School For To Bullfighting and Angel's Cut.

"Bar Wars will be a fierce competition and a lot of fun," he said.

"It's open to the public, too."

TV pastry chef Adriano Zumbo and Perth chef Matt Stone are the star participants this year and will take part in Chef Collaboration Dinners and Meet The Chef.

Other highlights include the twilight hawkers' market, yum cha in the park, the food truck rumble and the guilty pleasures film season.

The City Of Perth contributes $200,000 to the event, which this year runs for 38 days.
