Hottest beers on cool list

There is one countdown on Australia Day that doesn’t involve a swifty being pulled by some overseas popster called Taylor.

Yet the Local Taphouse’s Hottest 100 Aussie Craft Beers will prompt as much discussion and debate as the list being prepared by a particular radio network.

For the eighth year the team behind two of the nation’s most popular watering holes will tomorrow release the results of the poll of the country’s more discerning beer tasters.

Thousands of punters have expressed their views from a selection of 1800 craft brews from the 200-plus beer gurus around the great southern land.

Voting is tightly controlled and the outcome a strongly-held secret until 6pm on Australia Day.

So what can we tip considering Guy Greenstone and Steve Jeffares, the brains behind the Local Taphouse venues in Sydney and Melbourne don’t give away many hints?

Maybe last year’s list provides a few clues.

WA’s Feral Brewery was voted the No.1 beer in 2013 (announced January 2014) for their Hop Hog. Stone and Wood was a close runner-up with the Pacific Ale while Little Creatures’ Pale Ale came in third.

But there has been a flood of new beers on the market, some of which made their debut as unique brews produced for the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular in Melbourne last May.

There is also a wide variety of styles with new blends teasing tasters’ buds.

So while the stereo might be on waiting for Peking Duk or Chet Faker to get the nod of the music fans maybe their success can be toasted with one of the high placegetters in the Local Taphouse Top 100 Craft Beers list.
