Picture the motivation to change lifestyle

Five years ago, Ben Gould could not have imagined being choked up at the sight of a piece of clothing.

But for the 33-year-old father of one, the size 5XL shirt he is now dwarfed by is a reminder of a lifestyle his family feared could eventually kill him.

Mr Gould, of Northam, recalls spending countless nights on the couch watching movies and drained of energy when he was at his heaviest - 161kg in 2008.

"I think it was my mum or my sister who told me that if I continued to live like that, I wouldn't live much longer," he said.

An unflattering photo was the "reality check" he needed to help him lose more than a third of his body weight in just nine months.

Less than a year after his health kick started, he ran in the 2009 HBF Run for a Reason.

Mr Gould will join about 35,000 runners in this year's HBF Run for a Reason on May 25.
