Kitchen style: Colour rules
An open-plan living and dining space overlooking a courtyard makes the perfect hub for this growing family.
Sam Klopper, of Klopper & Davis Architects, said the fresh colour palette, featuring vivid pops of yellow, was an expression of the owners' personalities.
"They're quirky, vibrant and eclectic," he said. "The Carrara marble benchtop and neutral white cabinetwork allows the minimal strips of colour to make a big impact."
Amber feature glass to the vestibule inspired the yellow bulkhead and finger-pull details, and is also referenced in the vintage pendant lights.
"The mosaic splashback with its unique colour variation works well to complement the owner's beautiful collection of vintage ceramics," Mr Klopper said.
Built by Adam Jongeling of Wandoo Building Company and cabinetmaker Mark Barrett of Benchmark Cabinetworks, the kitchen features the perfect balance of concealed and open storage.
Appliances are integrated behind cabinetry and a walk-in pantry hides clutter, while open shelving on the outer side of the island doubles as a design feature.
A draining board was routed into the marble slabs and under-counter sinks were chosen to minimise the utilitarian aspect.
The Bianco Carrara marble is a focal point of the kitchen, adding character and texture.
"We would always choose a beautiful stone slab benchtop over an engineered product, because we love that they age and patina over time," Mr Klopper said. "However on the working/cooking side, we did install an engineered stone benchtop for durability and low maintenance."
