Kitchen style: Modern family
Design-based architectural firm Pendal and Neille opted for a varied palette for this Carine kitchen.
Finishes include two types of timber flooring butting against each other, blonde wood cabinetry and high-gloss dark cabinet fronts, with added interest in the form of a chalkboard rear (created with chalkboard paint on pre-painted galvanised iron) and metallic details such as appliances and sculptural lighting.
Stephen Neille said the project diverted from the standard kitchen trend which typically favoured a pared-back scheme.
"The material palette follows the idea and strategy for the house: lighter timber-lined primary rooms served by darker glossy adjunct spaces," he said.
"Darker gloss spaces strategically located act as 'thick edges' to the building, thus drawing exterior natural light and colours into the house via reflections."
The builder, Hugo Homes, and cabinet maker, Cabinets by Dario, all contributed to creating the appealing hub for the family.
"It is a pleasure being within this beautiful and functional room atmosphere, ideally located at the centre of the home between garden and dining room."
