Teenage girls were jumping up and down in barely contained excitement as they crowded every entrance of Jamie’s Italian restaurant in William Street in a vain attempt to see their hero, international super chef Jamie Oliver.

The Naked Chef was in Perth for just a few hours visiting his restaurant and cheering on his young staff before flying out to his next appearance in the eastern States.

Outside, frustrated paparazzo were elbowing each other for the best position to snap the chef.

They, too, were thwarted as Oliver was brought up into the restaurant from its basement loading dock.

The West Australian was the only media allowed access to Oliver with a half hour sit-down interview inside the restaurant.

Oliver expanded on his plans for the future – including an “incubator fund” to get young people into their own restaurants and future expansion in Perth – and how he has no more ambitions for “the Jamie Oliver brand” with plans to spend the next twenty years working with young people in the restaurant game.

Oliver had lunch yesterday with “the Perth Olivers”, part of his extended family and caught up with some of his mates.

Jamie Oliver lost in the crowd.
