Top surfer, Surf Life Saving Australia and some of their "blue pals" join forces to keep kids safe at the beach this summer

Former World Junior Surfing Champion and current world number three Australian Sally Fitzgibbons jumped at the chance to become a surf safety ambassador.

She and her Smurf mates have made a video explaining these five surf safety tips for children:

Always swim between the flags.

Always ask a lifesaver for advice.

Read the safety signs.

Always swim with a friend.

If you need help, stay calm and attract attention.
