Perth model Jessica Gomes may be best known as a bikini-clad Sports Illustrated covergirl but she is gaining high fashion clout as the newest face of David Jones.

Gomes, who is based in Los Angeles, will take to the runway tonight in Sydney to launch the autumn-winter 2013 fashion season and celebrate the department store's 175th year in the business.

The 28-year-old beauty, who is of Singaporean and Portuguese descent, has talked openly about her early struggle to break into the international fashion scene because of her "exotic" looks and because her figure was considered too voluptuous.

But it has not stopped Gomes from appearing on six Sports Illustrated covers nor from becoming a huge celebrity in Asia, thanks to a series of popular TV advertisements, her own reality TV show and a stint on the Korean version of Dancing With The Stars.

Now the fashion world has come knocking. Gomes will take centre stage with fellow Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr at tonight's parade, wearing designs by the likes of Ellery and Dion Lee.

"The David Jones show is a great gig for any model to get - it's a really proud moment for me," Gomes said yesterday.

"My parents have flown over from Perth to see the show. It's fantastic for them to be able to see me here in Australia."
