After offering the first glimpse last month via a single sketch which offered little in the way of detail, Honda has announced it will reveal its all-new compact SUV concept to the public in Detroit this month.

Officially named the Honda Urban SUV concept, the vehicle will share its platform with the third-

generation Jazz.

As the sketch shows, the concept looks similar to the just-launched fourth-generation CR-V, but with more pronounced lines on the side and a shape which hints at a coupe.

As reported recently in WestWHEELS, a small SUV has been high on Honda Australia's to-do list. It aims to win back consumers after suffering supply issues in 2011 and offer direct competition to similarly sized successes such as the Nissan Dualis and Hyundai ix35.

The compact SUV is expected to be a global model, meaning it will likely be available outside the US.

Honda Australia says it recognises the high demand for small SUVs and hopes to bring one into the local market, although it has no current plans to import the Urban SUV in particular.
