Revenge star Ashley Madekwe says she may use her first Melbourne Cup experience as a fashion reconnaissance mission.
The star of the Seven drama is a blogging fashionista and is excited about what new trends and colours she will discover in the exclusive Birdcage area today on Cup Day.
Madekwe is one of three Hollywood starlets expected to turn heads, along with Mischa Barton and Australia's Rose Byrne, who stars in Damages.
Barton is a guest of the Victoria Racing Club and major sponsor Emirates, while Byrne will be socialising in the Lexus marquee.
Apart from checking out the fashions on the field, Madekwe is in Australia for a hit-and-run publicity call for Seven's high-rating drama.
She will head back to the US tomorrow, which she says is unfortunate because she will miss the glamorous Oaks Day fashion on Thursday, where Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall will be in attendance.
"I know, from what I have been told, racing is secondary," Madekwe said.
"It's about what the women are wearing, big hats, people watching and it's a great social calendar event and tradition.
"If today I see a really great trend then later on when I get home I might try to work an outfit around it. Like if I see everyone is wearing blue when I get home to the States I'll try and find something blue and talk about it that way.
"I don't take pictures of people or anything."
Madekwe has yet to make up her mind which horse she will back in the Cup.
She says she has developed a method of how to choose the right horse which is less than scientific.
"I don't gamble and I've never been to the races before but I am really excited about going," Madekwe said.
"I am going to gamble but I don't have any tips. I am going to look for the horse with the best fashion name. Then next to that will be the best-looking horse and then the jockey with the best outfit."
The Melbourne Cup will be shown live today on Seven/GWN7 at noon. Coverage starts at 7am.
