Gare bakes off
Astrid Volzke/The West Australian Anna Gare

Following in the footsteps of celebrity chef att Moran, who just days ago called it quits from Ten's hit cooking series MasterChef, Subiaco-born Anna Gare has also defected from the network to host Nine's new cook-off series, The Great Australian Bake Off.

The former Junior MasterChef judge, right, will join actor/ comedian Shane Jacobson as hosts, while internationally acclaimed baker Dan Lepard and renowned cake designer Kerry Vincent will be the judges.

Touted as the "ultimate kitchen battle", the show will see 10 home-baking enthusiasts cook off against one another in a bid to claim the title as Australia's best home baker.

The show, based on the original BBC show launched in 2010, has evolved into a mega ratings hit across the globe having been picked up in the US, Sweden, Poland, Norway and France.

Production of the Australian version will begin next month in Victoria.
