Bayswater-raised Paula Jane Hamilton is part of a team of make-up artists nominated for an Emmy award for their work on the hit TV series Glee.

It is the Los Angeles-based WA expat's first Emmy nod and puts her in the running for outstanding make-up for a single-camera series (non-prosthetic).

"I wasn't expecting it," she said from the set of her latest Hollywood film. "I feel honoured and a little humbled. I almost feel a little guilty. There are plenty of my peers who are amazing make-up artists who probably deserve a nomination more than me."

Ms Hamilton, who has been based in LA since 1999, began her make-up career in Perth.

She has worked with some of the biggest names in film, TV and music, including John Legend, Robert Plant, Naomi Watts, Meg Ryan, Ryan Reynolds and Dennis Hopper.

She also worked with Heath Ledger long before he became a household name.

"That was for a Chicken Treat commercial and I did the head shots that he brought to America with him," she said.

"He was really nice - you could tell he was into his craft. I knew he was destined for big things."

The winners of the Creative Arts Award Emmy categories will be announced on September 15. The Emmy Awards will be held on September 23.
