Red wine lovers must think they are living the dream.
With cutthroat discounting and exceptional quality at all price points, there is no better time to be buying Australian red wine.
A perfect storm of great vintages across Australia has delivered an outstanding range of wines.
And in The West Australian tomorrow the top 100 red wines will be revealed in the special Fresh Best Reds magazine.
The quality of the wines in all price categories made deciding the make-up of the top 100 one of the most difficult yet.
More than 500 wines from producers across Australia were submitted and put to the test.
The criteria for entry were simply that the wines had to be Australian reds and widely available throughout the State.
And from that I have chosen the best value and the best of the best.
The outstanding wines from both groups will also be revealed in tomorrow's paper.
The best value red - no I'm not going to tell you yet - is one of the finest value for money I have tasted in the under-$15 category over the years in this annual tasting and when you consider it will almost certainly be discounted, it should be mandatory buying.
The best wine of the tasting - no, I'm not revealing that one either - is a great wine of elegance and refinement that proves that big is not always best.
The good news is that it, too, will almost certainly be discounted.
Also in the liftout will be recipes created especially by Fresh writer Jennifer Jordan to match the wines.
