Marais, Gibney to compete for Gold Logie

Perth-raised Packed to the Rafters star Jessica Marais will go head to head against her screen mum Rebecca Gibney in the race to be crowned this year's Gold Logie winner.

Marais is one of four first time nominees, the others being Karl Stefanovic of Nine's Today show, Asher Keddie of Ten's drama Offspring and Chrissie Swan from Ten's morning show The Circle.

Completing the list is previous Gold nominee Adam Hills, host of the ABC's hit music quiz show Spicks and Spicks.

Seven's hit family drama Packed to the Rafters received 15 nominations, announced this afternoon at Sydney restaurant Quay.

Rafters screen father and son Erik Thomson and Hugh Sheridan will compete for the Silver Logie for most popular actor against Michael Caton, who plays Sheridan's grandfather on the show. Also nominated were Callan Mulvey (Rush/Ten) and Don Hany (Offspring/Ten and Tangle/Showcase).

Three of the most popular actress nominations also went to Rafters stars - Marais, Gibney and former Perth actor Zoe Ventoura, whose character Mel was killed in a dramatic car crash last season. Also nominated are Margot Robbie (Neighbours/Ten) and Asher Keddie (Offspring/Ten).

Adam Hills, Chrissie Swan, Hamish Blake, Karl Stefanovic and Shaun Micallef are nominated for most popular presenter.

Swan is also up for best new female talent against Perth model turned actor Emma Booth (Underbelly: The Golden Mile/Nine), MasterChef season one winner and runner up Julie Goodwin (Home Cooked/Nine) and Poh Ling Yeow (Poh's Kitchen/ABC1) and Hannah Marshall (Packed to the Rafters/Seven).

Home and Away (Seven), Neighbours (Ten), Offspring (Ten) Packed the Rafters (Seven), Rush (Ten) and Underbelly: The Golden Mile (Nine) will compete for most popular drama series while Hawke (Ten), Packed to the Rafters (Seven), Rake (ABC1), Rush (Ten), Sisters of War (ABC1) and Underbelly: The Golden Mile (Nine) are the nominees for most outstanding drama series, mini-series or telemovie.

Perth and Broome raised Claire van der Boom of Rush and Hawaii Five-0 fame is nominated for most outstanding actress for her role in the ABC1 telemovie Sisters of War. Emma Booth is nominated for the Graham Kennedy Award for most outstanding new talent for her role in Underbelly: The Golden Mile.

The Logie Awards will be presented in Melbourne on May 1.
