A 17-year-old P-Plate driver has been charged after a car smashed into a Bertram home last night.

It is alleged the boy failed to negotiate a roundabout on Maynard Way and drove into the front bedroom of a house where a man was laying on his bed watching TV.

The man was showered with bricks but only sustained scratches to his face. Extensive damage was done to the front of the house.

The driver and his teenage passenger escaped injury.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor.

P-Plate drivers must not record any alcohol if tested.

The driver will appear in Perth Children's Court.
