The tears that run down Hanan Shahad's face say more than her strained voice ever could.

Surrounded by her three children, Mrs Shahad tries to stay strong as she talks about a life without her devoted husband after his death in a car crash on Sunday.

Salman Alyassin, 43, was in his black taxi on Albany Highway, Kelmscott, about 1.30pm.

His car was hit from behind at the Denny Avenue intersection, became airborne and landed on a footpath metres away.

Mr Alyassin had critical injuries and died in hospital a short time after his arrival.

Mrs Shahad said her husband of 14 years dedicated his life to his family and she felt alone without him. "He always said, you first and me second … he liked to make our life better, but he's left us too early," she said. She would now have to be mother and father to Ali, 13, Shahad, 9, and Karrar, 8.

"He was always thinking about us," Mrs Shahad said.

The mother of three said she was comforted that her husband was surrounded by good Samaritans who rushed to help him after the crash.

Mrs Shahad plans to take her husband back to their homeland Iraq for a traditional burial.

The death of a 46-year-old driver yesterday near York pushed the State's road toll to 29.

Passing drivers found the Tammin Shire work supervisor in the wreck of his white Ford Ranger, which hit a tree in Badgin between 6am and 8am.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw either crash or any of the vehicles involved before the accidents.
