Rottnest visitor bitten by snake

A woman has been flown from Rottnest Island for treatment for a suspected snake bite.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s, is stable and is being assessed at Fremantle Hospital after being flown from the holiday island this morning.

She was transferred to Jandakot by the RAC Rescue Helicopter, which had a Royal Flying Doctor Service doctor onboard.

There has been a spate of adults and children treated for suspected snake bites in recent weeks.

A 41-year-old man died earlier this month after he was bitten by a brown snake in Laverton. The man failed to seek medical attention and collapsed about 45 minutes after he was bitten. His death was WA’s first reported fatal snake bite since 2010.
