Fremantle have taken a gamble at the selection table, with injured midfielder Michael Barlow named to take on Port Adelaide in the battle for a top-four spot at Patersons Stadium on Saturday.

Barlow has missed just one game after breaking his thumb against Hawthorn in round 21.

Despite coach Ross Lyon playing down the midfielder's chances, he was named to come into the side along with skipper Matthew Pavlich, returning from a thigh injury.

Garrick Ibbotson and Matt de Boer both drop out of the side which beat Brisbane last week.

Port have made just one change, with Cam O'Shea making way for first-year defender Jarman Impey.
