Horror weekend on WA roads

Three men are dead and a toddler is in a critical condition after a shocking weekend on WA roads.

A 32-year-old man died in Cloverdale early yesterday when the Suzuki Swift he was a passenger in and a Toyota Camry collided at the intersection of Abernethy Road and Fulham Street.

The smell of burnt rubber still hung in the air yesterday as Ken Noble collected pieces of the Suzuki from his back lawn.

Mr Noble said he had seen more than 20 serious crashes in his time living on the "notorious corner", including three fatal accidents. He even had a barrier installed two years ago to protect his home.

"Cars have come through my fence several times," Mr Noble said. "The impact (on Sunday morning) was that severe I've got bits of the car on my back lawn.

"As soon as I looked in the car, I knew it was bad."

The 33-year-old male driver of the Suzuki was in a serious but stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital last night, while a 16-year-old female passenger in the Camry was in a critical but stable condition at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. The 22-year-old female driver was stable.

Just hours after the Cloverdale crash, a 40-year-old man died when his car rolled and hit a tree on Line Road in Tincurrin, east of Narrogin, about 3am.

Tragedy struck again late yesterday morning when a pedestrian was hit by a car in Hamersley.

The man, in his 20s, was stuck under the vehicle near the intersection of Erindale and Beach roads until emergency crews arrived. It is understood the man's legs were trapped and he was given CPR at the scene but died later in hospital.

Major crash officers are investigating.

On Saturday, a three-car collision in Southern River left a two-year-old boy fighting for life.

The toddler was last night in a critical but stable condition at Princess Margaret Hospital.

He was a passenger in a Subaru station wagon that collided with a Jeep Cherokee and a Dodge Caliber at the intersection of Warton Road and Barrett Street.

A 22-year-old man is expected to be charged after he allegedly crashed his Subaru Liberty into a Wellard house about 6am yesterday before driving off.

The car careered through an outside wall of the Runnymede Gate property, dislodging limestone blocks, some landing in the home's front bedroom.

A WA Police spokeswoman said the occupants were fortunate not to be injured.
