Man dies in shove case

A 32-year-old man has died in hospital after he was allegedly shoved to the ground by a stranger he tried to hug on a city street.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm over the alleged incident, which happened on Murray Street about 5am on Sunday. He is due to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court on May 7.

Police said Zak Harvey grabbed the other man around the neck and tried to hug him.

The accused allegedly pushed Mr Harvey away and he fell and hit his head. Mr Harvey was rushed to hospital but died on Monday afternoon.

Homicide detectives are seeking advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions and waiting on autopsy results as they investigate the death.

It is understood there was no argument or altercation between the men before the incident.
