Avoidable deaths claim WA lives

More than 3200 West Australians die each year from avoidable conditions such as heart disease, a report shows.

The National Health Performance Authority report also shows many people in Perth have above-average life expectancy compared with a national figure of 79.7 years, with men in the Perth north metropolitan and Fremantle areas living on average to 81.1 years and 81.3 years respectively.

Compared with a national life expectancy of 84.2 years, women living in Fremantle can expect to live to 85.2 years and those in Perth north to 85.4 years. But men in the Kimberley-Pilbara have the second highest rate of avoidable death in the country, with 321 deaths per 100,000 people a year.
