The remains of butchered pigs have been dumped in the Muslim section of a cemetery in an apparent racist attack.

Two pig carcasses were strewn underneath the sign indicating the Muslim section of the Rockingham Regional Memorial Park in Baldivis overnight.

The WA Metropolitan Cemeteries Board confirmed the incident, and said the animal parts had been removed as soon as they were discovered.

“Board staff discovered the dumped animals at the Baldivis park on Monday morning,” a board spokesman said.

“The City of Rockingham and the police have been notified and the animal remains were removed as a matter of absolute urgency.

“Board staff have notified the leaders of the Muslim community of this incident.”

The spokesman said the incident was the first of its kind.

“It is being treated as an isolated occurrence. If any members of the community witnessed any unusual goings on at the park we urge them to contact Crime Stoppers immediately.”

Iqbal Samnakay, of WA's Muslim Social and Sports Association, said the apparent desecration would be upsetting to all sections of the community.

“Whether it is the Muslim community, or any other community, these burial sites should be respected,” Mr Samnakay said.
