The son of one of the Ohio men accused of keeping three women captive for a decade says there were several locked rooms in the house where family members were not allowed to venture.
Anthony Castro, the 31-year-old son of suspect Ariel Castro, told The Daily Mail his father deserves severe punishment after he was arrested along with two brothers when one of the alleged victims finally raised the alarm.
"If it's true that he took her captive and forced her into having sex with him and having his child and keeping her hidden and keeping them from sunlight, he really took those girls' lives," he said.
"He doesn't deserve to have his own life anymore. He deserves to be behind bars for the rest of her life. I'm just thankful they're alive."
The three women, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight, were re-united with their families yesterday after Ms Berry was able to get the attention of a neighbour, who helped her escape the house she had allegedly been captive for a decade.
Police responding to the 911 call found two other alleged victims, while Ms Berry escaped with the six-year-old daughter she gave birth to in the house.
Ariel Castro, 52, has been arrested along with two brothers, Pedro, 54, and Onil, 50.
Anthony Castro has told the Daily Mail he discussed Ms Berry's case with his father only recently.
Anthony Castro says his father asked last month whether Anthony thought Ms Berry would ever be found alive.
When Anthony said he thought she was most likely dead, the alleged kidnapper reportedly responded, "Really? You think so?"
Police allege Ms Berry was tied up in the basement at the time of the conversation.
Anthony Castro says his father kept strict security measures around the home.
"The house was always locked," he said. "There were places we could never go. There were locks on the basement. Locks on the attic. Locks on the garage."
New details are emerging of the victims' time in the house, including several calls to police about bizarre behaviour.
One neighbour says a naked woman was seen crawling on her hands and knees in the backyard of the house a few years ago.
Another neighbour says he heard pounding on the doors and noticed plastic bags over the windows.
Police showed up at the house both times, the neighbours say, but never went inside.
Reports claim the victims went through several pregnancies, but also suffered several miscarriages.
Anthony Castro says he had no idea what was allegedly happening in the house because of his strained relationship with his father.
He says neither he nor his sisters suspected anything, and rarely visited the home.
“The only thing I can express is a tremendous level of shock,” he told the Daily Mail.
“To those girls, it's beyond comprehension what happened to them. It's just a nightmare. I just feel so horrible for them. Unspeakably horrible.”
