A teenager accused of sexually assaulting an 88-year-old woman in the Great Southern may be charged with further offences, Perth Children’s Court was told this morning.

The 15-year-old appeared in court this morning on charges of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated burglary, stealing and assault occasioning bodily harm over the alleged attack on the woman on Friday night.

The woman was admitted to hospital but has since been discharged.

The court was told there is a “significant chance” further charges will be laid against the teenager.

The teenager’s defence lawyer Stephen Gabriel requested a two-week adjournment after telling the court his client understood the charges against him.

The schoolboy, who did not plead to the charges, stood and nodded as he was told he was going to be remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance.

His mother tried to hug her son as he was led from the dock but security guards intervened. The 15-year-old shouting "I love you mum" before he was taken into custody.

He will reappear in Perth Children’s Court by video link on May 15.
