An alarm activation at Perth Airport forced the evacuation of passengers at the domestic terminal this afternoon.

Passengers were evacuated from the Qantas Club lounge at the airport for about half an hour after the alarm was activated.

Social media users said they were unable to board or disembark planes during the alarm.

"We've landed but they won't let us off the plane because a fire alarm has them evacuating Perth airport," a Twitter user said.

Former V8 Supercar champion Garth Tander was among those held up after the evacuation.

"Just tried to board my plane back to Melbourne and the evacuation alarm has gone off at Perth Airport! #notideal," he said on Twitter.

A Qantas spokesman said the alarm was "triggered in error". The spokesman said any delays to flights would be minimal.
